You and Me and Jesus

So, about 57 years ago I was beginning to date Doreen who would become my wife of 54 years. We were both at Berkshire Christian College where we earned our Bachelor Degrees. Early on in our dating we agreed that Jesus had to be first in our friendship no matter where it led. Somehow we started saying to each other: “You and me and Jesus.”

We really sort of stumbled into the most profound truth of any marriage. Put Jesus first. Make Him the center and the final arbiter of everything. It was only later that we discovered how Biblically sound it is. Paul encouraged the Ephesians with the foundation of marriage that is often missed today. Many preachers use this passage, but miss the most important part, because they start with verse 22 instead of 21.

21 “Submitting to one another in the fear of God.
Marriage—Christ and the Church (cf. Col. 3:18, 19 )
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.”  Ephesians 5:21-24

Notice the heading between verses 21 and 22. That is an unfortunate placement of a heading that is not in the Greek text at all. It suggests that the marriage teaching starts with verse 22. That is wrong. Paul laid the foundation of marriage in verse 21. A man and a woman must first be submitted to “one another” in the fear of God.

Doreen and I are each submitted to Jesus. If she hears from Him, I listen and submit to God in her. If I hear, she submits to God in me. We walk in that revelation as Christians. If you skip that step and start with verse 22 you end up with confusion. Yes, there is a hierarchy in marriage (and all of life) but it only works when preceded by “mutual submission” to God. How can Doreen submit or trust me if I am not already in submission to the Father’s will? The hierarchy part is only a matter of order not value. We are equally valuable with different functions.

(By the way, when you study the rest of Ephesians 5, you will see that there is only one instruction for wives. But, there are about fifteen instructions for the husband, so shape up, men. Selah.)

Jesus always taught that the glory ultimately goes to the Father. Even though Jesus is equal with God, there is still a placement within this order of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This same concept is also taught for marriage: equal in value, but different in function. Husband and wife have equal value, but a functional hierarchy is necessary for practical operations on a day-to-day basis.

The Christian marriage is a trinity of relationship with God, which is why when we started saying: “You and me and Jesus” it proved to be the glue of a marriage of over half a century and still going strong! God is good. God is faithful!

One Week Till Jesus Comes?

That blog title is what is known as clickbait. However, I do have a point. The Fall Feasts of Yehovah start next Monday night on the Jewish calendar, although Biblically it could be the next day or so and not necessarily at sundown.

Confused? Because of several references to Jesus coming at the sounding of the trumpets, I believe it refers to that specific time on God’s calendar. The first Fall Feast is known as Yom Teruah (the day of the sounding of trumpets). It is also Rosh Hashana, the new year, 5782.

When Jesus was talking to His disciples about His return, He made an intriguing statement.

“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” Matthew 24:36 NLT

Most interpret that verse as an absolute conclusion that there is no clue when He will come. However, the Jewish culture at the time of Jesus had a saying about Yom Teruah starting as “No man knows the day or hour.” That is because it starts Biblically at the actual physical sighting of the new moon from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. If it was cloudy you might not see it till midnight or later, or may not until the next night. Thus the saying.

Now, I am not stating a doctrine, just a little food for thought. So, what if Jesus used that common Jewish phrase as a hint, a clue, that He would return during the sounding of the trumpets on Yom Teruah? Even Jesus did not know at that time what the weather would be at His return, but we can know the season.

“…in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:52

I could be wrong, and we should be ready to meet him every day. But, I must say it is just a little more exciting at this time of year. And wouldn’t this be a great year for Him to come? Next week?!

This year also happens to be a Shmita year; when observant Israelis leave their fields fallow (one year every seven) to allow the land to rest and restore its nutrients for better crops the other six years. Some even believe it is a Jubilee year, (although it seems like somebody says that every year).

With all the shaking in the whole earth, wouldn’t this be a good time? Are you ready to meet Him? If it is not, then we we will carry on with His business until He comes.

Conspiracy Fear is Wrong

Fears that come from conspiracy theories are fundamentally flawed. Whether they come from left or right wing sources, from government, from medicine, or even from Christian sources, if they produce panic or dread, run from them. This post is just a simple appeal based on Scripture.  Don’t think like everyone else!

Ancient Israel was under threat from the Assyrians and God gave Isaiah a crystal clear instruction that applies today.

Yehovah has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. Make Yehovah of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. He will keep you safe. Isaiah 8:11-14a NLT

The name of Yehovah is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10

Don’t think like everyone else! Fear is a spirit, and it is not from God.

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Why Rest One Day out of Seven?

My view of resting may shock you. The Bible clearly says to rest one day a week (a sabbath to be exact). For Jews it is sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, or in Bible terms, the seventh day. Many Christians observe Sunday and even call it their “sabbath day”. Either way it is one day out seven, and it is a commandment. As a pastor for many years Sunday was my busiest day, so my “sabbath” was Monday. But that is not my shocking statement.

“Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of Yehovah in all your dwellings.” Leviticus 23:3

Six days work, one day no work. But what if I told you that God wants you to rest every day? And if you work all seven days each week, you will not be able to rest any day? Let me mention this great verse and tell you what I believe it means for our earthly lives, not our eternal lives.

“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” Hebrews 4:9-10

I wish we could go through all of Hebrews 9, but let me simply state that there is a kind of rest promised beyond one day a week, but also, before eternity. God has provided by His Holy Spirit the ability to “be at rest” in our reborn spiritual nature. We can live at rest even while doing very intense work and other activities. However, if we do not take that one day of physical rest, ceasing from our normal labors, then we cannot be at rest during the week.

Do you get it? We are commanded to unplug one day for our own good. We recharge our spiritual batteries and can then focus clearly the rest of the week. It is not about finding the right doctrine about “which” day, but actually doing it. Jesus was quite clear, yet many did not understand what He meant.

And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27

After God made creation in six days. He sat back and appreciated how beautiful and how good it was. We also need to stop and “smell the roses”. What Jesus was explaining was that the sabbath idea was not a command to observe a rest day to make us religious. Rather, we are commanded to rest one out seven because we get tired! It is for us; we need it. Many, both Jews and Christians have turned it into self-righteous day of proving we deserve His love, which is forever impossible.

SHOCKER! But, wait! What if it really is possible to be at peace (shalom) and rest every day? Yes, we can be at rest even at work. It is because we rest in Him. When we get that straight, we will be anxious for nothing, He’s got this! By taking that one day to unplug, we learn (eventually) to rest with Him every day. A sabbath day is for us, not a trial. It was made for us. It is good.

More are They That are With Us

Afghanistan has seized the attention of the whole world. Now more than ever we need to keep our focus on the Heavenly realm of spiritual reality. Last Monday I wrote about the evil nature of man without Jesus. I explained the background of our ministry name from the account of the prophet Elisha when surrounded by the Syrian army. His servant was terrified, but Elisha saw a truer reality than the flesh and blood troops on the ground. He saw that the Syrian army was outnumbered by a heavenly army of chariots of fire. This was my comment Monday: “More are they that are with us than they that are with them. Look into the spiritual realm and see the chariots of fire and the angels of Yehovah God surrounding and outnumbering our enemies. We have read the end of the Book, and we win!”

This applies to the Christians in Afghanistan today. Pray for them. Yes! But, pray with faith. Pray with your eyes on the heavenly reality. Yehovah God is still in total control. According to Joel Richardson of Sheep Among Wolves, the greatest evangelism on the planet is first in Iran, and second in Afghanistan. He says also that the greatest persecution of Christians is North Korea, followed by Afghanistan. You won’t see it on the news. We have to sharpen our spiritual eyes. I pray as Elisha did for his panicked servant, that God would open our eyes to see the chariots of fire and His holy angels.

So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Yehovah, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then Yehovah opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:16-17

Afghani Christians are living in the final Book of Revelation. It is amazing, but true, that Jesus gives supernatural grace at the very time of greatest persecution. Throughout history there are stories of Christians who ask God to let them serve Him even to the death.

From Facebook 8-21-21: “We received news that the underground church in Kabul Afghanistan has been martyred. Our friends have been in contact and met together last night in deep prayer. The last words she spoke was “ we feel your prayers because this supernatural boldness came over us and we were singing in the spirit even the kids said mom we will not deny Jesus. As they were on the phone they heard screaming and gun shots. God is so powerful they went to be with the creator filled with joy. We will be fasting tommorow for the churches still fighting please join.”
 
KEEP PRAYING! Their reward is great. May the enemy encounter Jesus and His love that they repent.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”  Revelation 12:11-12

Pray that persecuted believers will find the supernatural authority Jesus declared, that allowed Him to have peace all the way to the cross. We need not fear man or the devil. Yehovah God has all power and authority.

Then Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?” Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” John 19:10-11

Yes, pray for the Afghani believers, but pray with faith and hope and even joy of the eternal victories being won even now in this present day. I continue to hear loud and strong in the Holy Spirt:

More are They That are With Us Than They that are With Them!

Which Word Does Not Apply Today?

Fear not

The whole world is shaking. Time for a reality check. Should we be surprised to see the “perilous times” predicted by Paul the apostle? Consider the contrast between believers and unbelievers. Whether we are thinking of the Taliban or Antifa, or BLM rioters, this is the day Paul saw. In the following list, which does not apply to our culture today?

Men will be lovers of themselves,

lovers of money,

boasters,

proud,

blasphemers,

disobedient to parents,

unthankful,

unholy,

unloving,

unforgiving,

slanderers,

without self-control,

brutal,

despisers of good,

traitors,

headstrong,

haughty,

lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.

2 Timothy 3:2-5

On the other hand, this is the day for believers to stand up for God’s Kingdom no matter the personal cost. Jesus said He will never leave us or forsake us. We have a living hope of eternal life with Him and all who love the glorious appearing of the Messiah Yeshua. Come quickly Lord Jesus! But in the meantime, we have a job to do and He is with us.

“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:12-17

Yehovah has provided all we need to be completely and thoroughly equipped. Hallelujah! More are they that are with us than they that are with them. Look into the spiritual realm and see the chariots of fire and the angels of Yehovah God surrounding and outnumbering our enemies. We have read the end of the Book, and we win!

What is “Pay to Slay?”

Million dollar murders, paid by the Palestinian Authority. This is the 20th anniversary of the 2001 Sbarro Pizzeria bombing in central Jerusalem. It was one of the most tragic terrorist attacks during the second Palestinian Intifada (uprising). Over 150 were injured and 15 were murdered, including 7 children and a pregnant woman.

The murderers in Israeli prison are still being paid monthly for their “heroic operation.” The suicide bomber is considered a martyr and to this day his family is being paid monthly for a total (so far) of nearly $70,000.00.

Blood money: The PA has already paid $1,183,257 to the terrorists who blew up the Sbarro pizza shop – Planner of the attack: “If time could go backwards, I would carry out what I did, in the same manner.” By now, the PA has paid Abdullah Barghouti, the terrorist who built the bomb and is responsible for the murder of 67 people in various attacks, a cumulative sum of US$285,571 (921,500 shekels). Every month, the PA pays him a salary of US$2,255 (7,300 shekels). In addition, the PA has paid the family of the suicide bomber US$68,498 (221,400 shekels). Every month the PA continues to pay his family an allowance of US$432 (1,400 shekels). The minimum wage in the PA is 1,450 shekels/month (US$44).

The Lucrative Business of Blowing Up Jews – Figures show Palestinian terrorists involved in 2001 bombing have to date been paid millions. Jerusalem has long complained that one of the main obstacles to peace is the Palestinians’ so-called policy of “pay-for-slay.” In short, the Palestinian Authority offers generous compensation to Palestinians jailed or the families of those killed as a result of attacking Israelis. The money to do this comes primarily from foreign aid.

Zephaniah identifies certain Palestinians, as “Cherethites” or literally: ASSASSINS or EXECUTIONERS! It would seem to be a simple step to understanding this reference as an ancient way of describing the suicide/homicide bombers of today.

Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, The nation of the Cherethites! The word of Yehovah is against you,
O Canaan, land of the Philistines: “I will destroy you; so there shall be no inhabitant.” Zephaniah 2:5

After this last days judgement God will allow His people to return to the coastland which not only includes Ashkelon (which Israel now has) but also refers to Gaza. I believe Gaza is soon to be given back to Israel, likely with a final battle after four previous Gaza wars in the last twenty years.

The seacoast shall be pastures, with shelters for shepherds and folds for flocks. The coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed their flocks there; in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For Yehovah their God will intervene for them, and return their captives. Zephaniah 2:6-7

This “pay for slay” system of the Palestinian Authority must stop. We need to pray for righteous leaders who will take a stand against “pay for slay” and stop giving millions of dollars to the corrupt Palestinian Authority.

Why Are We Called Elisha Vision?

Les and Doreen Lawrence have a specific ministry to connect Jewish and Christian believers. We see a prophetic timing in God’s last generation which brings Jews and Christians together as “One New Man” in Jesus (Yeshua). This prophetic merger explains many of the geo-political events of this day, especially in contrast to the rise of radical Islam.

Our task is to help others see this and understand what believers ought to do, thus participating in the fulfillment of His plan.

Our method is by following the example of Elisha who could “see” the spiritual dimension when others could not. We endeavor to open eyes to the fact that “more are they that are with us than they that are with them.” This is primarily working with leaders to provide “seed to the sowers” regarding our critical union with Israel in God’s final purpose of restoration.

Our support for Israel is first and foremost for the eternal purpose of God for His people and His Land through many unconditional promises. Our support begins by standing with the believers in the Land. Many Israelis have come to believe in Jesus as the Messiah. We choose to stand foursquare beside them in these difficult days. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, knowing that the only true peace is in Yeshua ben Yehovah. We pray for the government, knowing that many of its leaders do not know God, but we believe that God is the one who removes and sets up kings. Jesus died for all men, and we therefore pray for the salvation of all the neighbors of Israel as well, while still recognizing God’s unique prophetic relationship to Israel.

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. Ephesians 2:14-16

Has God’s Law Ended?

Israel is not removed from God’s plan, but is restored after great judgement. Romans Chapters 9-11 clearly define Israel’s place in the eternal purpose of God. Most of this passage is clear. However, the section at the start of Chapter 10 has been wildly misunderstood.

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” Romans 10:4

This verse confuses those who miss the context. It is often only partially quoted: “Christ is the end of the law.” That is not what it says. What has ended is the idea that righteousness can be earned by keeping God’s law. Jesus ended that once and for all by providing our salvation as an absolute gift of God’s grace. This is consistent with the Old Testament, for example:

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and Yehovah has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9

Isaiah and Jeremiah understood that man was incorrigibly corrupted by sin in his very nature. Only when Yehovah laid all of our iniquity on the Messiah, could there ever be deliverance from that nature. Now let us look at the context of Romans 10 and feel the heart of Apostle Paul. He previously had been at the top of the Pharisee food chain. If anyone could have earned righteousness it was Paul.

“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” Romans 10:1-4

Paul clearly explains in Chapter 11 that Israel will be saved in the end, but here he charges them with ignorance of “God’s righteousness.” He contrasts His great revelation of salvation by faith without works of any kind, to our human attempts to establish what he calls “their own righteousness” by keeping the law, which is impossible. God meant for us to recognize the impossibility and throw ourselves on His mercy. But instead, they (and we) go about trying to “be righteous.” We can only be free when we give up, and receive the free gift of salvation through the transaction of the blood of the Lamb and Messiah. What a relief, when we realize He does not expect us to “get righteous” by perfectly keeping the law and never sin in any way!

The Law has not ended. The wicked will be judged by the Law. What ended was revealed in the last, often skipped, phrase: “end of the law for righteousness.” In their zeal they tried to keep the law, ignorantly thinking it was possible. But now we are believing by faith in the finished work of the resurrected Messiah. They also will be saved by having faith in the Jewish Messiah. Thank you, Yeshua ben Yehovah!

Equality vs Equity

You need to know the difference between these two words. I like to talk about “fun with words,” but this issue is not fun. America is under assault from a Marxist “cultural revolution” much like the terrible China revolution under Mao. Manipulation of words through redefinition and confusion is typical. As in the cartoon, there are many new issues being used by the “Woke” culture to divide Americans. I am focusing on just one of those issues.

Equality and equity come from the same root word, equal. But, they have opposite meanings. Today’s Marxists use “equity” because it conflates and confuses the two words. They sound to most hearers like they both mean equal, but here is the difference. Equal refers to “equal opportunity.” Equity refers to “equal outcomes.”

America has always stood for equality. The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal.” All should have equal opportunity for the American dream. That used to be out of reach for many, but through the years this equal opportunity has expanded exponentially as our nation has matured. New laws freed the slaves, gave them the right to vote and much more. Women who were denied voting rights finally gained that right. My point is that we continue to correct past wrongs, and although we have more to do, we still “have come a long way, baby,” as the saying goes.

Equity, on the other hand, demands (even by force) that all have equal outcomes. All people should have equal shares of wealth, regardless of their effort. This is unbiblical. The Bible teaches personal responsibility and accountability. No wonder rejection of God goes with this “cultural revolution.” Marxism has always been characterized by godless atheism.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7

“For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12

Free stuff from the government is not Biblical. With the requirement of responsibility comes the ability to respond. Our laws should be sure to protect everyone’s opportunity for advancement. History is full of rags to riches stories of those from humble beginnings who achieved great things. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina is a great current example. He was on the verge of a life of drugs and rebellion when a Christian owner of a Chick-fil-A restaurant helped him change his life through opportunity to know Jesus and the opportunity to advance at work. In fact, prosperity and liberty are connected to the blessing of God. Faith in the Messiah Yeshua changes all lives for the better beyond color, gender, or other differences.

So, when you encounter the propaganda about equality and equity, remember the distinction between opportunity and outcome.

How Long Will Israel’s Government Last?

There have already been at least three votes of “no-confidence” in the new coalition Israeli government. One was 59-59 with two abstentions. If just one abstention had voted against the coalition there would be new elections. Yesterday, Ayelet Shaked, a top member of the Prime Minister’s Yamina party said she would bring the coalition down if they submit to Biden’s pressure to freeze “settlements.” 

I will quit govt if it agrees to settlement freeze, Shaked says – “If the government does something fraught with what I believe are grave ideological implications, I won’t be a part of it. For example, if the US demands a freeze on building in Judea and Samaria — then there will be no government,” she said. 

Her statement came hours after PM Bennett apparently indicated a move toward a freeze. This is the same old playbook from the Obama/Biden years which never accomplished any progress because of the refusal of the Palestinian Authority to negotiate. They always insisted on pre-conditions before sitting down to talk. The same old pattern is accepted again by the Biden Administration.

ANALYSIS: Biden’s Attempt to Revive Peace Process Seems Dead in Its Tracks – The Biden administration is working hard to get Israelis and Palestinians back to the negotiating table, but is making all of Obama’s mistakes. More than a week after the Palestinian Authority (PA) presented a grocery list of preconditions for new peace talks with Israel to the US administration of President Joe Biden, it appears that the United States has accepted at least one of these conditions.

On Wednesday, July 21, it was announced that the Americans are demanding that Israel stop all construction activities in the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and that the government of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett apparently has given in to this demand. Israel Today

Notice that the issue is land again. Every time the anti-Israel left gains power, they immediately move to block Yehovah God’s purpose to restore Israel to its Biblical mandate for all of the land. God seems to be using the same pattern as when Israel originally took possession of the land city by city. But, make no mistake, His Biblical promise will be fulfilled because of His faithful character.

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19

Whenever man finds himself blocking the path of God’s plan, he loses. God curses those who curse Israel. It is Yehovah who sets the boundaries of nations and He has chosen Israel and the exact boundaries of her habitation.

“And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,” Acts17:26 

…Yehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—” Genesis 15:18

No More Chunky Monkey

Dry Bones Ben & Jerry hate

The big story in Israel this week is about ice cream. Yes, really. Ben & Jerry’s, an extreme left-wing company owned by anti-Israel Jews, has joined the BDS movement to boycott Israel. (BDS means: boycott, divest, and sanction). What it means for me is no more Chunky Monkey, my fave B&J flavor. The reaction is all over the place. Leftists rejoice and pro-Israel folks are disgusted. Does it matter in the big scheme of things? I think it does. It is nothing for me to give up Chunky Monkey, but if we ignore each incremental economic attack on Israel, the anti-Israel crowd will win.

The good news is that BDS is not winning and even this latest attempt will backfire. The Israeli company making Ben & Jerry’s has the license until the end of 2022 and will continue to sell it till then. Their sales in Israel have jumped by 21%. However, in the U.S, we need to show the mistake the global company is making, thus, no Chunky Monkey for me, until I visit Israel next year!

Statement from Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, in response to the decision by Ben & Jerry’s: “There are many ice cream brands, but only one Jewish state. Ben & Jerry’s has decided to brand itself as the anti-Israel ice cream. This decision is morally wrong and I believe that it will become clear that it is also commercially wrong. The boycott against Israel – a democracy surrounded by islands of terrorism – reflects a total loss of way. The boycott does not work and will not work, and we will fight it with full force.”

Ben & Jerry’s: We will not sell our products in the “Occupied Palestinian Territories” – Popular ice cream company to continue doing business within pre-’67 borders, but ends services in Judea and Samaria in BDS win.

This is a good time to remember my favorite verse regarding prayer for our city or nation. It speaks of the authority of our voices. We must speak up. The authority of a believer has direct results. Doreen and I use the reference number to remind us to pray each day at 11:11, both A.M and P.M.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. Proverbs 11:11

Messiah and the 9th of Av

The day of mourning for the destruction of the first and second Biblical Temples began at sundown July 17, 2021. For Jews it is a day of fasting and remembrance, not only that the temples were destroyed on the exact day over 650 years apart, but also many other Jewish tragedies were on the 9th of Av. We need to intentionally pray and stand with Israel this weekend. But, beyond the mourning is the belief that only the Messiah coming will end Jewish persecution. Here is a quote from a Jewish website making this very point.

Mourning the Temple: Tisha B’av at the Western Wall – On Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av, the First and Second Jerusalem Temples were destroyed. Jews from all sectors mourn the Holy Temples at the Western Wall, with prayers and lamentations.  The First Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians, sending the Jewish into a 70-year exile. The Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans, and Judean independence was lost following the fall of the city of the city of Beitar, the last stronghold of the Bar Kochba revolt. After the destruction of the Temple, the Jews lost their spiritual center and were exiled from their homeland. This is the exile which the Jewish People suffer from to this day, and it will be resolved only with the coming of the Messiah.

Days of mourning for Jews usually brings up the long awaited arrival of the Messiah. Anti-Semitism also reminds of the hope of the Messiah. My observation from a distance is that there is a notable increase of interest in the Messiah almost year by year. When I first visited Israel in 1984 more than 50% of Israeli Jews were atheists. Even though there is a strong secular segment in Israel, more Israelis are softening toward God. There is a growing number who now believe in Yeshua haMashiach. Jesus the Messiah. It is still only a remnant, but Yehovah God is turning hearts toward Him. Pray for hungry seeking hearts for Jews everywhere.

For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:24-26

Notice this is the re-gathering after being exiled to all the nations, which we now see in current events. God will give them a new heart and a new spirit after they return to their “own land.” Christians who have received the Messiah have had this very same experience of a new heart and a new spirit. I long for the glorious day when His chosen ones recognize Messiah and enter the joy and true Shabbat rest of the God of Israel.

Remarkable Secrets of Things to Come

The prophet Jeremiah prophesied judgement on Jerusalem before, during, and after Babylon conquered the great city of God. But, the most amazing part is found in chapter 33 where God reveals the great forgiveness, healing, and restoration of Jerusalem. Most of Jeremiah’s contemporaries hated him because of his “doom and gloom” words. Check out this prophecy from Yehovah through Jeremiah:

“You expect to fight the Babylonians, but the men of this city are already as good as dead, for I have determined to destroy them in my terrible anger. I have abandoned them because of all their wickedness.” Jeremiah 33:5 NLT

Yet, this word came immediately after Yehovah made His promise of secrets to Jeremiah.

“This is what Yehovah says—Yehovah who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is Yehovah: Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.” Jeremiah 33:2-3 NLT

You might expect the secrets would be all good news, but the first prophecy was very bad news for Jerusalem during its three-year siege by Nebuchadnezzar. The corrupt false prophets of Jerusalem, who had sacrificed to the gods of Baal, were certain that God would never destroy the city. But they were “dead” wrong! I think it should sober us today about our own nation. Yehovah has the final say!

However, the prophecy does not end in gloom, but in great joy and mercy by Yehovah, for His name’s sake, because of His promises to their fathers. He did indeed abandon the godless ones in Jeremiah’s day, but revealed the greatest secret of the last day restoration of all that Yehovah had promised.

“Nevertheless, the time will come when I will heal Jerusalem’s wounds and give it prosperity and true peace. I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and rebuild their towns. I will cleanse them of their sins against me and forgive all their sins of rebellion. Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! The people of the world will see all the good I do for my people, and they will tremble with awe at the peace and prosperity I provide for them.” Jeremiah 33:6-9 NLT

Notice that the “people of the world” will see all the good and tremble with awe! Wow! Did this happen at the return from Babylon? Did it happen when Jesus came? No, and it did not happen for nearly two thousand years after. But in 1948, Israel became a resurrected nation miraculously and is clearly experiencing the promised restoration and favor of Yehovah. Psalm 102 details the last horrible destruction of the Holocaust followed by the “time to favor Zion, yes, the set time has come.” God has certainly turned the page from judgement to mercy! Now we are seeing with our own eyes the fulfillment in process of Jeremiah’s “remarkable secrets.”

“This is what Yehovah says: You have said, ‘This is a desolate land where people and animals have all disappeared.’ Yet in the empty streets of Jerusalem and Judah’s other towns, there will be heard once more the sounds of joy and laughter. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will be heard again, along with the joyous songs of people bringing thanksgiving offerings to Yehovah. They will sing, ‘Give thanks to Yehovah of Heaven’s Armies, for Yehovah is good. His faithful love endures forever!’ For I will restore the prosperity of this land to what it was in the past, says Yehovah.” Jeremiah 33:10-11 NLT

“No Fear” Rally in DC Sunday

This Sunday July 11 will see a DC rally to stand with American Jews who have experienced a dramatic rise in antisemitism.

American Jews Still Reeling From Rise In Anti-Semitism After Israel-Hamas Conflict, Survey Shows – 305. That’s how many anti-Semitic incidents the ADL recorded in May 2021, a 115% increase from the same period last year. This included 190 cases of harassment, 50 cases of vandalism and 11 assaults. 

Hundreds to rally outside US Capitol to protest antisemitism – Titled “NO FEAR: A rally in solidarity with the Jewish people,” the rally will feature prominent activists, leaders, elected officials and victims of antisemitic attacks. “It is time for the Jewish people and our allies to speak out against antisemitism with the many voices in our resilient community,” the rally’s website states. “Our tent is big. We welcome all Zionist, Jewish organizations, and allies. If you believe we have a right to exist in peace and security as a Jewish people both here in the United States and in Israel, then you belong with us.” Among the speakers attending will be Elisha Wiesel, son of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel.

This current explosion of Jew hatred may have been sparked by the May Gaza war, but is part of a larger trend toward more serious incidents of antisemitism globally against Jews and Israel itself. The Bible warns of this and it points to timing of end-time prophecy.

There is also an historical pattern repeating. Each major persecution of Jews follows a particular Biblical prophecy of Jeremiah of first fishers and then hunters, which I covered in my June 27 blog post. It is important for us as Biblical Zionists to stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers. On the surface it is attacking Jews, but the real hatred is of Yehovah God Himself. Notice the clear target in this passage is Israel, as a way to attack God:

Do not keep silent, O God! ​​Do not hold Your peace, and do not be still, O God! ​​For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; ​​and those who hate You have lifted up their head. ​​They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. ​​They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” ​​For they have consulted together with one consent; they form a confederacy against You:  Psalm 83:1-5

They are His enemies, they hate Him, and the confederacy is against Him! And also remember that the last days persecution in not only aimed at Israel and the Jews, but also against Bible believing Christians. This is more and more evident even from our own government. Choose this day Who you will serve and where you will take your stand. As for me and my house, we stand with Israel and the God of Israel. We may not be able to attend the rally, but we can pray.

Florida Ministry this Week

It is my honor to officiate at the wedding of Amanda Smith and Mark Miller this Saturday in the Tampa Bay area. I have known Mark since he was a boy and it will be a joy sharing in their important day of commitment to one another. He grew up in the church I led in Clearwater which was Maranatha Chapel. We changed the name to Flowing River Church before I moved to North Carolina. Mark parents, Kevin and Roseanne, have been dear friends for forty some years. The wonderful thing about the family of Jesus is that the bond of love and fellowship keeps getting stronger over the years, even when separated by miles. There is no distance in the Holy Spirit.

It is also a great honor to speak once again at Flowing River on Sunday morning, Independence Day! He whom the Son sets free is free indeed. I invite my friends in the area to join us at 10 am before the cookout fun and fireworks. I have a word of encouragement for those who have been fighting depression with the state of our nation after the election and the virus. “More are they who are with us, than with them!”

If you only look at the natural it is logical to be discouraged. But, if you look at what Yehovah God is doing in the Spirit you will see victory, purpose, and restoration. Jesus is not done with America just yet.

And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Yehovah, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then Yehovah opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Yehovah, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. 2 Kings 6:15-18

Elisha then led the blind army into the hands of the King of Samaria, but required the King to allow them to go back to Syria. That was a mighty demonstration of the supernatural power of God! Whatever you may be going through, don’t look down, look up! More are they that are with us than those that are with the enemy. Hallelujah!

Are Jews Safe in America?

It is not yet obvious to most, but the inevitable persecution of Jews in America has begun. The rise of anti-Semitism is well documented, but what does it mean? Yehovah God promised that He would gather the exiles (outcasts) of Israel from the whole world. That includes the United States. Only Israel with seven million Jews has more Jews than America. Around five million still live here, far more than any other country. Yet God is calling them home. Remember the main text of my book, Speak to the Dirt! Ezekiel prophesied their return from all countries.

And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am Yehovah,” says the Lord Yehovah, “when I am hallowed in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. Ezekiel 36:23-28

FISHER AND HUNTERS – Notice that it clearly declares they will return from “all countries.” How does He do it? Sadly, there are three stages. First, the call goes out to return. Then God sends “fishers” to fish those out who are ready. But, finally He has to send “hunters” to provoke the stragglers to make the move to the chosen land of Israel.

“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says Yehovah, “that it shall no more be said, ‘Yehovah lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ but, ‘Yehovah lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.’ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers. “Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says Yehovah, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.” Jeremiah 16:14-16

Pray that American Jews will heed the call and return without the necessity of “hunters.”

The Fool Says in His Heart “There is no God.” Psalm 14:1

Funny thing about this quote, it is from Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom. It was his response from a reporter after the British Labor Party leader, Sir Keir Starmer, had professed his atheism. Further, this exchange was at the G7 Summit last week. Very interesting.

I was delighted to hear of Boris Johnson swimming against the tide during the G7 summit in Cornwall by confirming his belief in God. ITV’s Robert Peston put it to him that Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer had openly declared his atheism, so what did the Prime Minister think? I don’t suppose Robert (or anyone else, including Sir Keir) was ready for the answer ‘Bojo’ gave by quoting the Bible: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’.” (Psalm 14:1) As I have said elsewhere, our words are extremely important, and this is a clear declaration of belief in God, neatly following his Easter comment in which he quoted Jesus as being “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). You would enjoy reading the rest of the above article which goes on to explain that St. Patrick was Jewish and observed Passover instead of Easter. Also, many Christians were killed by the “Church” for not giving up their Jewish roots. Today, with the rise of anti-Semitism, we see that the ancient evil is still around. 

Pray for all Christians to rediscover our Jewish roots and pray for leaders to boldly confess their belief in God and His Son, Messiah Yeshua. Amen.

Hutzpah!

Our favorite Israeli cartoonist at Dry Bones has done it again. Accusations against Israel routinely include the charge of “Apartheid!” The ignorance needed to apply that charge to Israel is breathtaking. This cartoon exposes the lie quite clearly. Antisemitism does not deal in truth but in shock. The more outrageous the claim, the more publicity it gets. 

We have also pointed out the same shock value of the slogan: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” This is a genocidal cry since “Palestine” by their own definition will be “Jew free,” no Jews allowed! Furthermore, the nearly two million Arab Palestinians who are citizens of Israel are freer than Arabs in any Arab country. Israel is the only true democracy in the Middle East. Arab citizens of Arab countries to not have the normal rights that we take for granted in Western countries.

Hutzpah, sometimes written chutzpa, hutzpah, or hutzpa, is a Yiddish word that originally comes from Hebrew. … In Yiddish, chutzpah is usually considered a negative characteristic, along the lines of brazen nerve, insolence, impudence, or arrogant self-confidence.

The bottom line is that man’s arrogance and lies will go nowhere. Yehovah God Himself guaranteed the restoration, expansion, and blessing of Israel in their own land. All the demons of hell cannot block the purpose of the living God. Raise your eyes to view the eternal Plan. God is right on schedule. Jesus is ready. Are you ready? The bridegroom provides the wedding garments, but the bride must make herself ready. Are you ready?

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Yehovah says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken. I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away. Isaiah 28:16-17 NLT

54 Years of Love

Doreen and I have been married 54 years. Is it okay that I feature our anniversary in my blog post today? We are getting ready for a private anniversary lunch at a favorite restaurant. We always say that we are blessed more than we deserve and we mean it. We fell in love at Berkshire Christian College in October 1964 and were married June 11, 1967. Throughout the years our love has been constant because it was based from the beginning on a simple covenant: “You and me and Jesus!” He has been the center all the way.

“submitting to one another in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:21

We follow this verse in Ephesians to submit to each other before ever getting to the structural order of husband-wife-children. We submit to Jesus in each other. If Doreen hears from the Lord, that totally trumps my opinion on any matter, and vice versa. We chose over 56 years ago, on our third date, to live by that concept and we have been so blessed beyond words. Many start their teaching about marriage with the next verse about wife submitting to husband, but that will not work unless they previously submit to each other in Jesus.

Our ministry has taken us to ten countries and many states. We have “family” all over the world, especially Kenya and Israel. We have been abundantly blessed with the treasure of three beautiful daughters who love Jesus. They have given us seven wonderful grandchildren who also follow Jesus. We thank God for our godly sons-in-law also.

This is not to say we have not had trials and some hard times, but that our heavenly Father has always been with us. One of our biggest regrets is that we have not been able to impart this marriage key to everyone more effectively. We certainly give Yehovah God all the glory for our love, and we look forward to the years ahead. Our times are in His hands.

Israel Defense Forces @IDF –  Fact: Of the 4,300+ rockets that Hamas and Islamic Jihad fired at Israel during Operation Guardian of the Walls, 680 misfired and exploded inside Gaza, killing and injuring their own civilians.

IRONY – Hamas leader’s daughter has been in a Tel Aviv hospital for a month. She is being given life-saving health care the entire time of the Gaza war started by Hamas. Is Israel apartheid? You decide.

Daughter of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh being treated in Israel – Hamas launched 4,000 missiles at Israel, including Tel Aviv, while its leader’s daughter was being treated at a Tel Aviv hospital. The hospital said that she “is one in more than a thousand patients from Gaza and the territories, children and adults, who come for treatment every year at Ichilov Hospital.”

We must continue to pray for wisdom and discernment to recognize the lies and propaganda coming from terrorist groups. Consider the source. The murderous genocidal spirit of Satan is evident in the Hamas Charter which states: “ISRAEL WILL EXIST AND WILL CONTINUE TO EXIST UNTIL ISLAM WILL OBLITERATE IT.”

Friday Prayers = Riots… WHAT?

Cognitive Dissonance – Conflicting illogical thoughts and conclusions is a good definition. The case in point is the typical reaction on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount after “Friday prayers,” when youth pour out of the al Aqsa mosque and commence rioting. Notice the Hamas flags. This was after the ceasefire following eleven days of 4,360 rockets fired at Israeli civilians. Doesn’t anyone notice the contradiction of the headlines such as this one from yesterday, after the Gaza ceasefire:

Palestinians riot on Temple Mount after Friday prayers – Hundreds of people threw rocks and petrol bombs at police officers who responded at the scene. …Days of unrest at Al-Aqsa during Islam’s holy fasting month of Ramadan…

Yes, it happened also during the entire “holy fasting month of Ramadan.” Does anybody have a problem with the words “prayers” and “holy” being used preceding riots? I don’t think that word means what they think it means. My point is that there is a spiritual source even beyond the political goals. There are those who choose violence and destruction as their way of expressing themselves. We see it in the BLM and Antifa riots in the U.S. also. The real source is Satan himself. When his nature takes over human nature the result always leads to death.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

One more point – Don’t forget that the number one terror supporting nation is Iran, and they are behind the latest Gaza war. Yes, this is the same Iran that is about to receive boatloads of cash and have all sanctions lifted by the Biden administration.

Iran hails Palestinian ‘victory’, warns of ‘deadly blows’ against Israel – Iran, which does not recognize Israel, supports and arms the Islamist militants of Hamas, who rule the Gaza Strip.

Hamas’ Haniyeh vows to destabilize Jerusalem, thanks Iran for support – Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh suggested that Hamas’s current objective is to continue fueling the ongoing violence in Jerusalem, just hours after the ceasefire came into effect.

Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”  John 10:7-9

Now Over 3,500 Rockets from Gaza

Hamas rockets from Gaza continue to fall on Israel for one week. This update features excerpts from last night’s Netanyahu speech, courtesy of allIsraelnews.com. Please refer to my last blog post for context. (This is the fourth Gaza war which fulfills Amos 1:6-7.)

Netanyahu vows Israel will respond “until the security of our people is restored” – It has been five days since Hamas brazenly fired rockets at Jerusalem and other Israeli cities in a totally unprovoked attack.

This past week, millions of Israelis were forced into bomb shelters as missiles rained down on our cities. Several Israelis have been killed. Many more have been wounded. You know and I know, no country would tolerate this. Israel will not tolerate this.

Israel has responded forcefully to these attacks and we will continue to respond forcefully until the security of our people is reinstated and restored. We’ve eliminated dozens of Hamas terrorists and taken out hundreds of terrorist sites, including missile launchers and buildings that Hamas used to plan and perpetrate these attacks.

Two nights ago, Israel also seriously degraded the terror infrastructure of Hamas. We knocked out part of the vast subterranean tunnel network that Hamas uses to attack Israel. I want to remind the world that in firing on our cities, Hamas is committing a double war crime. They’re targeting our civilians and hiding behind Palestinian civilians, effectively using them as human shields.

As always, Israel is doing everything possible to protect our civilians and keep Palestinian civilians out of harm’s way. We demonstrated this yet again today when we warned civilians to vacate the building used by the Hamas terror intelligence. They vacated the premises before the target was destroyed and that’s why you don’t hear of casualties from these collapsing terror towers because we take special care to avoid these civilian casualties, exactly the opposite of Hamas. 

SOLIDARITY SUNDAY: As terrorists in Gaza fire 3,000 rockets, tens of millions of Evangelicals heed call to pray for Israelis and Palestinians – I’ve been so encouraged hearing from Christians around the world who are mobilizing others to pray for Jews and Arabs, and to focus on the promises of Psalm 91. As Israel heads into the biblical holiday of Shavuot (Pentecost) this evening, tens of millions of Evangelical Christians are gathering in churches today in the U.S. and around the globe to obey Psalm 122:6 which commands believers to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” and all the people of the Land. Shavuot (Pentecost), also known as the “Feast of Weeks” or “Holiday of First Fruits” commemorates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.

How Israel moves Gazan civilians out of the way of attacks on Hamas – Israel uses phone calls and roof-knock munitions to evacuate Gazans ahead of airstrikes. “We select warheads with the necessary lethality to hit those who need to be hit and to reduce the impact on others,” Israeli official explains.

Please read the entire article above (click the blue link) about how Israel systematically avoids civilians as much as possible. Hamas uses civilians as human shields and targets civilians indiscriminately in Israel. The media building also housed Hamas intelligence offices. Hamas uses homes, schools, mosques, and even media locations as human shields. They know that Israel intentionally avoids civilian targets. Pray especially for the poor Gazans who are the first victims of Hamas. This is not about Arabs and Jews. It is about jihad or peace.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ​​“May they prosper who love you. ​​Peace be within your walls, ​​Prosperity within your palaces.” ​​For the sake of my brethren and companions, ​​I will now say, “Peace be within you.” ​​Because of the house of Yehovah our God ​​I will seek your good. 1,200 Rockets from Gaza War #4

1,050 rockets in 38 hours.

137 rockets in 5 minutes.

At least six Israelis dead. (Two were Israeli Muslim citizens, a father and sixteen year old daughter.)

Over 200 Israelis wounded.

Intentional rocket fire from Gaza is directed at Israeli civilians and cities. When Israel retaliates they carefully seek only military terrorist targets. Yet, the world media describes it as “violence on both sides” as if the motives are equal. Gaza is a terrorist dictatorship targeting civilians who live in the strongest democracy in the Middle East. Israel must defend itself. It is the right of every sovereign nation. Many of the deaths in Gaza resulted from their own rockets (200+) that fell in Gaza, short of their targets in Israel.

We must pray for wisdom for Prime Minister Netanyahu. Pray that he will hear from God. Although the government is in transition, Netanyahu is still PM. If there could be a poll today who do you think Israelis would prefer as PM to handle this crisis? I believe it would be overwhelming for Netanyahu.

“The Gaza Health Ministry, which is run by Hamas, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), has claimed that 53 Palestinians have been killed, including more than a dozen minors, with more than 320 wounded. Those numbers should be met with skepticism because Hamas is a terrorist organization, and thus not credible. Also, many of those who have been killed are terrorists and Israel has cautioned that some of the Palestinians that have been killed lost their lives because they were hit by rockets fired by Hamas.” The Daily Wire

FOUR STRIKES AND YOU’RE OUT!

Prophetically, It is profound that this is the fourth Gaza war. This present Gaza war is called “Operation Guardian of the Walls” by Israel,, and “Sword of Jerusalem” by Hamas. Remember that “Hamas” is an acronym in Arabic, but is an actual Hebrew word that means: “Violence.” It is now in the prophetic timing for the destruction of Hamas and Gaza according to the prophet Amos.

Thus says Yehovah: “For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they took captive the whole captivity To deliver them up to Edom. But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, Which shall devour its palaces.” Amos 1:6-7

We are in a very serious prophetic window. Now more than ever we need to listen to the Holy Spirit and know the Scripture prophesies. We are close to the coming of the Messiah Yeshua. A season of peace should come before the Ezekiel 38 War, as I have been saying for quite awhile. Stay tuned! And PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!

While there has been unrest and riots (see below) in Jerusalem this week, the Abraham Accords are full speed ahead. While many pundits thought the Accords would disappear with the new Administration in DC, the opposite is the case. The Accords have a life of their own, which I believe is from God Himself. While the world careens ominously toward war because of Iran, God is doing something different. He will expand Israel’s land and also bring a season of peace. I have talked much about the necessary peace between the two wars described in Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38. Most prophecy teachers jump ahead to the anti-Christ peace and miss this interim peace that is required before the Gog and Magog war of Ezekiel 38:11. Meanwhile, Jared Kushner is working on that interim peace.

Scoop: Jared Kushner founds “Abraham Accords Institute” – Jared Kushner is founding an organization called the Abraham Accords Institute for Peace, to work on deepening the normalization agreements he helped strike between Israel and Arab countries.

The big picture: The Abraham Accords, signed in September 2020, were arguably Trump’s biggest foreign policy achievement and the biggest breakthrough for relations between Israel and the Arab world for 25 years.

Details: The non-partisan, non-profit organization will have a five-year mandate and be funded through private donations.

  • According to a statement, it will focus on increasing trade and tourism between the five signatory countries — Israel, Bahrain, the UAE, Morocco and Sudan — and developing programs to foster people-to-people connections between the countries.

  • It will also “provide analysis of the benefits of normalization and the potential benefits additional Arab countries can receive if they join the Abraham Accords.” Axios

The riots have been fomented by Hamas and the PLO to take advantage of the convergence of the end of Ramadan and Jerusalem Day in which Israel celebrates the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967. The trigger for the violence is a relatively minor property dispute between Jews and Arabs explained in the following story.

Sheikh Jarrah: What’s All the Hubbub?– Only the Palestinians could convince the world to see a property ownership dispute as an existential crisis. It’s everywhere you look. People around the world who previously had no idea what Sheikh Jarrah even was are now treating the East Jerusalem neighborhood as a cause célèbre. It’s the kind of public relations coup that’s the Palestinians’ forte. No one has died, despite the constant use of the word “bloodshed,” and this isn’t some mass expulsion event, even though it’s being portrayed as such. Israel Today

Iran, Turkey, Hamas, and Hezbollah will diminish leading into this interim season of peace. Yes, Iran and Turkey will lead the Ezekiel war, but not before a very secure peace that allows Israel to feel so secure that they tear down the walls that mar the landscape of the Holy Land. That is the reason the Abraham Accords will succeed. Stay tuned.

Is America Changing Sides?

The Trump Administration was clearly the most pro-Israel in U.S. history. “Coincidently” our economy was blessed off the charts and unemployment at historic lows, especially for minorities. We saw with our own eyes the fulfillment of Yehovah’s promise to bless those who bless Israel. That is why we were blessed. It was not because of President Trumps diplomatic prowess, it was the promise of the immutable God.

“I will make you a great nation; ​​I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. ​​I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you;​​ and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:2-3

However, the Biden Administration is reversing every single Israel policy of Trump that it can. This is not only regarding Israel but also Saudi Arabia and the entire Sunni Arab people. Islam is divided 85% Sunni and 15% Shia (Iran). But, ironically, by standing with Iran, Biden is pushing most Arabs toward looking to Israel for protection against Iran.

Whether this report is accurate will be obvious soon enough, but the general policy change toward Israel is well documented with reviving the Iran deal, renewed financial support for Palestinians terror, in violation of the Taylor Force Act, and open support of Netanyahu’s rivals. This election interference is unlawful. There is no doubt that America has changed direction from blessing Israel to cursing Israel. The consequences will be dire for us. We must pray that our Congress will stand up to President Biden and his extreme leftist cronies to block this turn against Israel. We must pray and act for our sake and for Israel.

The SHIELD of Yehovah

A viral photo of an IDF (Israel Defense Forces) soldier shielding a Muslim woman reveals the nature of our God.

An Egyptian, Hussein Aboubakr Mansour, posted this picture and statement on Twitter: “God bless Israel! God bless the IDF! This Ramadan I pray that God opens the eyes or more Muslims to what is really happening there.”

Viral Photo Shows IDF Officer Protecting Palestinian Woman – “As violent clashes again break out across Israel, IDF soldiers are being maligned in the media. But what’s the real picture?

A photo from Hebron has gone viral on social media among both pro- and anti-Israel crowds. It shows a fully-armored Israeli soldier protecting a Palestinian woman with a shield as she crosses the street.

The photo was taken amid Palestinian riots that began last week in Jerusalem and have since spread to Hebron, Gaza and other parts of the country.

It is yet another stark reminder that Israeli soldiers do not hate Palestinian Arabs, nor are they trained to do them harm. Rather, Israeli soldiers are trained to protect life from any and all who would do harm, as demonstrated by this officer.” Israel Today April 26, 2021

Yehovah God Himself is accused of evil, yet He is the Most Holy One. Of course, His enemies would accuse His chosen people of all manner of evil. The truth is seen on the ground in the midst of trouble. Praise God for that soldier showing the real protection of God toward that woman crossing the street. Sometimes the most profound truth is revealed in the most ordinary actions. Propaganda says Israel hates Arabs. The truth is manifest in this simply gesture by an anonymous IDF soldier just doing his job.

“The Chosen” is Relational

The Kingdom of God is relational. The world system is transactional. This clear contrast is the simplest way I know to express the character of God’s Kingdom purpose in the earth. Now, I want to encourage you to watch “The Chosen” series about Jesus calling His disciples. It is an outstanding portrayal of the RELATIONSHIPS of the disciples with each other and with Jesus. The casting of each disciple and their character development in the story is superb. Most stories of Jesus focus on doctrines and textual faithfulness and are written for Christians. This endeavor is what is called historical fiction. The Biblical facts are the base, but then the back stories of each character are developed with historical context. When I watch it, I am able to vicariously put myself in the accurate context of First Century life.

Bible Prophecy Interpretation Tip

Most Christians avoid Bible prophecy because it gets so confusing due to all the conflicting interpretations of symbols and spiritualizing. This is unfortunate. The most important predictions in the Bible are quite literal and easy to grasp by seeing their context in actual world history and current events.

Three of my most trusted mentors have believed a simple tip or rule of interpreting scripture: “If you can possibly take a verse or passage literally, do so.” This has been the key for me over many years now. Bible prophecy buffs tend to enjoy elaborate theories of last day scenarios that tantalize the reader or “tickle the ears” of their followers. It may be fun, but serves to draw attention away from actual predictions that edify and instruct us for daily living in a changing world.

My journey in literal prophecy began with Ezekiel 36 which is most often applied to the spiritual experience of Christians, but is a literal prophecy for the 21st century. It reveals Yehovah’s plan to restore both the land and the people of Israel, literally, in a real modern miracle. We have seen it fulfilled with our own eyes. Other examples can be found by taking literally Psalm 102, Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 and 19, Isaiah 60, and Ezekiel 38 and 39. 

What we have here is a definite pattern. Take the Bible literally. Only launch into symbolic meaning as a last resort if it simply cannot be taken literally. The extreme of this problem is seen in the ultimate rejection of the Bible itself. That is the trend as denominations turn away from God.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13

Iran Nuke “Accident”

Dry Bones Accident in Iranian Nuke Site

A major event happened in Iran yesterday. A large explosion completely destroyed the internal power system at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility and caused further fire damage. Iran initially claimed it was an accident before admitting it was “a terrorist enemy.” This will set Iran’s illegal nuclear program back at least nine months.

There are two parts to this story, the physical facts and the Bible prophecy implications. First, here are links to the facts. Then I will share the prophetic.

Iran says electrical ‘incident’ reported at Natanz nuclear facility

Iran says ‘terrorist act’ behind power cut at Natanz nuclear facility – Israeli outlets claim that a Mossad cyberattack is likely behind the incident.

‘Mossad behind cyberattack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility’ – Security cabinet set to meet next week amid growing tensions between Israel and Iran.

Officials: It will take Iran 9 months to fix damage at Natanz – Intelligence officials tell New York Times that the fire at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility was caused by a large explosion that completely destroyed its internal power system.

New fire breaks out in Iranian nuclear facility – Senior Iranian official says additional fire has broken out at Natanz uranium enrichment plant, which was earlier hit by sabotage.

What does this mean for Bible prophecy? Iran is viewed as the biggest threat to Israel at the present time. However, timing is the real question. Is this Iran’s hour of power? I don’t think so. As I have been teaching, there has to be a time of very secure peace for Israel before Iran, Turkey and others invade Israel in the Gog and Magog War of Ezekiel 38. We are now between the Psalm 83 War and Ezekiel 38. Therefore, I see Iran continuing to diminish in their influence. I know this goes against the tide of predictions, but I would rather base my view on solid scriptural foundations.

The Abraham Accords, which led to normalization between Israel and Arab Gulf states, are still expanding. Even Saudi Arabia is closer to open normalization with Israel. Some pundits predicted the end of the Accords with the new U.S. administration. But, the Accords have a life of their own from Yehovah God. He is moving all the players in the direction of His purpose, to expand the territory of Israel to their ultimate boundaries.

Even though the conservatives have more than the 61 seats needed, they are fighting among themselves with some wishing to dump Netanyahu. Yet, because he has more seats in his own Likud Party, he is the one to try to “herd the cats” into agreement for a right-wing government. He has 28 days to do it with a possible extension of another 14 days after that. If he fails, another (probably from the left) will be given the same opportunity.

Here is a little inside glimpse into the dilemma from a conversation I had a few years ago with an lsraeli editor who shall remain nameless. He stated that Netanyahu was corrupt. I then assumed he would not vote for Netanyahu, but he said: “No, I will vote for him because he is not as corrupt as the rest.” 

This is the fourth election in two years. One major reason for that is that Netanyahu is on trial (literally), facing three different indictments which are relatively minor in my opinion. They are based on dubious testimony and bear a striking resemblance to American politics. Netanyahu even condemns his accusers of being on a witch hunt. The trial has moved into a new phase with Netanyahu appearing in court just this week. However, the trial may take another three years! The accusations have been hovering around for three years already. It is mainly an excuse to bring him down from Prime Minister. The tactics of the Israeli left look a lot like the American left.

So, how does this all fit with Biblical prophecy? Yehovah, God of Israel, is right on schedule advancing His divine plan of restoration. He will do it with or without Netanyahu, but I still think God is using Netanyahu. God’s purpose is to expand Israel’s sovreignty over more of the Promised Land. The left wants to give half of it to a “Palestinian” state which divides the Land and directly violates God’s will.

“For behold, in those days and at that time, ​​When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, ​​I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; ​​And I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, ​​They have also divided up My land.” Joel 3:1-2

Yehovah will judge the nations AFTER He brings back the scattered exiles of Judah and Jerusalem. The judgment is because they DIVIDED THE LAND! That has already occurred in the last one hundred years. We are now in the phase of regathering and restoration. Since 1948 (Israel’s rebirth as a nation), Yehovah has been extending Israel’s territory. The Abraham Accords have further solidified this direction by removing the Palestinian two-state option from being a necessity for peace. The Arab states are choosing peace and normalization. This fits into God’s actions. The Biden Administration is desperately trying to roll back the clock, but it is too late. God is moving His purpose of favor, blessing, and restoration of Israel. He will accomplish every promise He gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yehovah God is faithful to His word!

​“God is not a man, that He should lie, ​​nor a son of man, that He should repent. ​​Has He said, and will He not do? ​​Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?  ​​Behold, I have received a command to bless; ​​He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.” Numbers 23:19-20

Pray for the next few weeks for God’s choice to be raised up as Prime Minister of Israel. Pray for the real peace of Jerusalem which will be only when the Messiah Yeshua comes. And pray for seasonal rains in the time of restoration.

All Words Matter

HAPPY RESURRECTION SUNDAY! As an author and a blogger, I have always had a love for words. Taking a cue from the current culture’s obsession with defining which LIVES matter, let me explain why WORDS matter. But first, a comment on WHY lives matter: Every human being was created by Yehovah God for His love and salvation. God loves each one uniquely and offers deliverance from sin and death, through belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus, Yehovah’s Son (Yeshua ben Yehovah). If Jesus had only died, we would still be in our sin, but the fact that He rose from dead ended death’s control over us. The question is not WHICH lives matter but WHY each life matters.

“For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord Yehovah. “Therefore turn and live!” Ezekiel 18:32

Here are two critical examples of why words matter.

  1. The Creator God has a specific name, Yehovah. But in today’s loose vernacular His name has been substituted with the generic “god.” As soon as you untether from His actual name, you are vulnerable to myriad redefinitions of “god.” It matters that we use His covenant name, Yehovah.   2. The most important celebration for all Christians is Resurrection Sunday. It signifies the day that death and hell were defeated by the supernatural resurrection of the Messiah. The world and many churches wrongly call that day “Easter” after the Babylonian pagan goddess, Ishtar or Astarte, the queen of heaven. Are you comfortable with using the wrong word for the greatest celebration of LIFE in all of history? (For more on this check out my earlier blog post: The Ultimate Antidote:

And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.  1 Corinthians 15:17 NLT

Notice I do not use the name: Easter. That is the name of a pagan goddess, and should have no association whatsoever to the resurrection of Jesus. The season is called Passover and is rich with deep meaning that ultimately connects believing Jews and Christians as one new man through the Messiah.

Have You Been Passed Over?

Do you ever feel rejected because you were passed over for a promotion or honor of some kind? That can be devastating, but there was one time when being passed over was great news. Jews and many Christians around the world are observing Passover this week. It remembers the glorious deliverance from Egypt and from slavery. For every true believer it also represents our deliverance from slavery to sin. Before we learn about the Passover lamb and the blood on the doorposts, we PRACTICE sin and lawlessness. And we get pretty good at it. However, when the blood of the Lamb is applied to the doorposts of our hearts, we are set free from the law of sin and death. The Messiah Yeshua died for us, in our place. If we believe in His atonement we are no longer bound to PRACTICING sin. We now PRACTICE righteousness, and even though it is a slow progression, we are being changed.  PRACTICE speaks of intentionally repeating over and over a certain skill (like piano or sports) until you get better and better at it. What are you putting into PRACTICE in your life? It is your choice.

Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice wicked works  With men who work iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies. Psalm 141:4

For the foolish person will speak foolishness, And his heart will work iniquity: To practice ungodliness, To utter error against Yehovah, To keep the hungry unsatisfied, And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. Isaiah 32:6

And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:23

In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 1 John 3:10

We who are believers in the Blood of the Lamb Jesus are rejoicing that the death angel has passed over our house and we are free to practice life and righteousness. Our sins were forgiven instantly, but we choose to practice a whole new lifestyle which is made possible by the blood of the Lamb. This process continues till the Messiah comes and then He will permanently change us for eternity. Hallelujah!

…in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:52

Abraham Accords Update

Last week Kosovo and the Czech Republic opened embassies in Jerusalem. This week Netanyahu announced four more countries are close, including Niger, Mauritania, Indonesia, and one other (my guess is Serbia or Saudi Arabia). There will also be more African nations. Last year under President Donald Trump the Abraham Accords began with United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. The inertia set in motion last year has a life of its own and continues even with negative developments around the world. Jesus prophesied of this day.

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.” Matthew 24:4-7

Notice He said “The end is not yet.” We are certainly in the last days; but there are also certain events still in play before the Messiah Yeshua comes. We are now seeing the Psalm 83 protagonists miraculously making peace and normalization agreements with Israel. This is right on track with prophecy because Israel must enjoy a secure season of peace so profound that they take down the walls that currently exist, especially around Jerusalem. The great Gog and Magog War can only commence at such a time of peace and only because that peace is what triggers the invasion by Turkey, Iran, Libya, and their evil coalition to destroy Israel. The spirit of Amalek never gives up until the Messiah ultimately returns to defeat it.

‘Thus says the Lord Yehovah: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan: You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’— to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land. Ezekiel 38:10-12

It is so remarkable to be alive in these days of clear Biblical prophecy fulfilled nearly day by day. Hallelujah! Stay tuned and fasten your seat belt. I have read the end of the Book, and we win!

Pray for Israel!

“The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, whom Christians and Jews worship, is the God who keeps covenant. He fulfills His promises, never failing or forsaking His people. As Christians, we believe God is faithful to His promises and will continue being faithful to them. The modern state of Israel is a powerful and miraculous testament to this fact. I have been off the grid this week while moving next door to a different house. That is why this is my only post this week. Back to a routine (Lord willing) next week. Please pray for Israel.

God and Congress

You may have heard Congressman Jerry Nadler’s quote on the news. Someone on Facebook misquoted it and then fact checkers declared the “misquote” to be false. However, here is the exact quote: “What any religious tradition describes as God’s will is no concern of this Congress.” 

Ironically, the national motto “In God We Trust” appears on the wall of Congress right behind the Speaker’s rostrum. God we trust. Congress? Not so much. The founding fathers believed that Congress itself was birthed by God and derived its authority from Yehovah and the Bible. The influence of our Judeo/Christian, Bible-based form of government is the model for the world. It is quite dangerous for our nation and especially for Congressman Nadler to defy the living God. His unashamed boldness only highlights how far we have fallen. We must pray for mercy for our leaders and our country.

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good. Psalm 53:1

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7

President Biden ran on the motto of “saving the soul of America,” yet it seems there is a rising rebellion against God that is bolder than ever. In the end, Yehovah God Himself will judge. God’s Son, Jesus, will sit at the judgement seat and separate the sheep from the goats. Now, more than ever, we must be about our Father’s business and share the great news of the salvation of Yeshua ben Yehovah. He saves not only our souls, but our body and our spirit for life eternal with Him at the right hand of God our Father.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and pray for rain in Israel.

Never Again Uprooted

Israel is a nation raised from the dead. This great prophecy from Amos 9 applies to today’s restoration of Israel. Millions of Jews have returned, from nearly every nation on earth, as a stirring testimony to the faithfulness of Yehovah God. Every word He has spoken will be fulfilled. What a joy and privilege to live in this great day.

“I will firmly plant them there in their own land. They will never again be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says Yehovah your God.”  Amos 9:15 NLT

  1. Yehovah is the One who is doing it.
  2. They are back in their own land, ancient Israel, not any other location.
  3. It is permanent, never to be removed again from their land.

This is not new to us. We have witnessed it with our own eyes for over seventy years. Israel was in Egypt for over 400 years, Babylon for over 70, and the dispersion to all countries for over 1,800 years! The Bible revealed each of those sojourns, but no more! No more will they ever be uprooted from the Land Yehovah gave them. Hallelujah!

No matter how hard the nations rage and try to block Him, Yehovah wins. They will fail. All the demons of hell, the fallen angels and the devil himself will utterly fail. It might be a good time to step back and remember the immutable, unchangeable promises of God. When you are tempted to slump down under the many pressures of life. Remember what God has done. Remember what He is doing now. And remember His promised victory yet to come. Remember also to guard your faith.

“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:12

I was blessed by Pastor John Thrift’s word Sunday morning at Grace Assembly. He reminded us of the cause of many Christians who grow cold, allowing the fire of their faith to go out. The great time of lawlessness in the earth is now upon us. If we focus on the abominations and rebellion around us, we risk the cold heart of unbelief. This is the time to look up to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He is seated at the right hand of Yehovah God in Heaven; and He is right on time; and He is in control of our eternal destiny if we allow Him. As the wise virgins, we must keep our lamps trimmed and filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit.

“Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”  Matthew 24:11:14

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and pray for and give thanks for the seasonal rains of restoration!

Iron Sharpens Iron

Would like to know three secrets of our happy and blessed marriage of 53+ years? There are more reasons, but these three are non-negotiable: Faith, Equality, and Honesty. This post came out of a discussion Doreen and I had this Wednesday about this verse.

“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”  Proverbs 27:17

I always thought of that verse as “brother to brother” in a spiritual sense, which is true. But now I have seen a deeper meaning when it applies to the relationship of husband and wife. On the “brother” level, it certainly describes the value of  rubbing or sharpening off the rough edges between two believers. But, when applied to marriage, it is life and death. A blessed and successful marriage must embrace the “iron.” Doreen and I rejoiced to see this new understanding from the Lord on Wednesday. And just to make sure we “heard” the Holy Spirit, Doreen’s verse for the day popped up Thursday morning with Proverbs 27:17. How cool is that?

When we first started dating in October of 1964, at Berkshire Christian College, we sort of “stumbled” into three personal commitments that we now know were straight from the Throne of Heaven. We were married June 11, 1967 at the end of Israel’s Six Day War. These three foundation stones of our now nearly 56 years of friendship were laid during a few walks together in 1964.

  1. FAITH – Somehow, I am not even sure how it started, we began to say often: “You and me and Jesus.” We still say that in words and/or action virtually ever day since. We also say “I love you!” multiple times a day. We chose to make Jesus the most important One in our relationship, more important than each other.
  2. EQUALITY – From the beginning we saw the Ephesians order of relationships. Many study husband and wife starting with  Ephesians 5:23 about wives submitting to their husbands. However, to start there is a colossal error. The previous verse is the start point of our marriage: “submitting to one another in the fear of God.” We are equal before God. Jesus speaking through her has more authority than my own opinion, and Him speaking through me has more than hers. Once that is clear, we can proceed to the hierarchy of family structure that follows. It is in this functional equality that “iron sharpens iron.”  One of the first things that attracted me to Doreen was her strength of character and confidence is her beliefs. When we “discussed” anything it was with 100% conviction both ways and we still enjoy these free “discussions” today. We have never shrunk back from standing strong for our opinions. I value that highly in a person. How we reconcile the times we disagree is another story, but we started by agreeing to never go to bed mad.  “Be angry, and do not sin” Do not let the sun go down on your wrath.  Ephesians 4:26
  3. HONESTY – We had a third revelation on our walks. The armor of God in Ephesians 6 starts with: “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth,” Ephesians 6:14  We mistakenly thought that referred to true doctrine, but it instead means honesty. Be honest. Tell the truth to one another. That is the preeminent piece of armor. If you don’t have truth, you are completely vulnerable to the enemy. On our second walk we vowed to be honest with each other. We even share our thoughts with each other when asked. Wow! That has been pure gold for a living relationship. Thank you, Jesus!

These three accidental vows have guided our marriage consistently. It helps that we had the godly examples of our own parents. My folks dated four years and were married 68 years. When Doreen and I celebrated 34 years, I turned to her and said: “Well, we are half way!” That long view is part of what I hope you get from these musings. One of my biggest heartbreaks is that we have not been better at helping others to find what we have found in our Jesus marriage. It is never too late. Follow Jesus!
