Pray for Rain

Chief Jerusalem Rabbi calls for fasting and prayer.

Israel suffers through multi-year drought until the chief Sephardic rabbi calls for a day of repentance, fasting and prayer to the God of Israel for His mercy. The day was January 14, and two days later it started to rain and it rained for six of the next eight days. Some areas had more than their annual rainfall in one day. The drought is not completely over, but Israeli’s now know that their best resort for relief is to call on the name of their God. Update 2-1-10 – Israel had the highest January rainfall in five years!

When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them, then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance. 2 Chronicles 6:26-27

BIO: Les Lawrence, a Christian Zionist, gives voice to those who are hearing that shofar (trumpet) sound of God’s practical purpose in the restoration of Israel. Born and raised in the small Midwestern town of Prophetstown, Illinois. Les and his wife, Doreen, were married at the close of the Six Day War on June 11, 1967. They both hold BA degrees from Berkshire Christian College and Les earned his Masters at Christian Faith College in Largo, Florida. They completed a year of missionary training in Farmington, Michigan. Les and Doreen have three beautiful grown daughters and six grandchildren. For 24 years, Les pastored Maranatha Chapel/ Flowing River Church in Clearwater, Florida. He has discipled a number of leaders who have planted churches in multiple countries. Les has also helped start four Messianic congregations. He currently serves Shalom Peniel Ministries in Raleigh, North Carolina.
