Acceleration: While you were watching basketball, the Middle East has turned a new dark corner. Saudi Arabia has attacked Yemeni rebels and now Egypt is joining along with Jordan. This might be a good thing if it was just about Yemen, but the next turn could be deadly for Israel. The armies that are massing will be getting good practice that could turn against Israel. Look at this headline from Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria.
Nasrallah: Israel Should be Targeted, Not Yemen Hezbollah leader blasts Saudi Arabia for launching airstrikes against Houthi rebels, saying it should lead a campaign against Israel. Speaking in a televised speech, Nasrallah said the military campaign should be directed at Israel, not Yemen, adding that if the warplanes were directed towards Israel, Hezbollah would join in.

The Israeli elections concluded with a stunning victory for PM Benjamin Netanyahu. The last polls had him behind by four or five seats and he won by six, a swing of 10 seats! This was despite (or perhaps because of) President Obama’s attempt to influence the vote toward the liberal Herzog. Even the New York Times reported the growing acrimony toward not only the PM, but Israel itself.
