I am so grieved today. Grieved. I am sorrowing in my spirit. A hit piece from one Christian attacking another is being passed around Facebook. People I know are re-posting it. Others are commenting by jumping in almost with a mob mentality. In the process both the writer and the comments play fast and loose with the Bible. My point is not to go over the actual argument here. (My three page rebuttal is posted here)
But why do fellow Christians feel all righteous, cutting down other Christians? The world is on fire. Apostasy is rampant. Entire denominations reject the Bible as final authority. They reject moral clarity. Reprobate sinners are Bishops of some groups. The world that rejects Jesus is going to the literal Biblical hell without the Messiah. So why do self-appointed arbiters of doctrinal perfection attack other Bible believing, soul-saving Gospel teachers? Are there not enough true enemies of the faith? Should we parse words, exaggerate and miss-represent fellow laborers in the vineyard to advance our own reputation? It is easy to garner lots of responses on social media by name-dropping famous Christians, especially if they appear to be “too successful”. When will we learn that walking over others is not the way of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve?
Here is the heart of my exhortation. Please stop. You do not know what spirit you have. Don’t let the accuser use your voice or your keyboard, to cut down brothers or sisters in the faith.
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Revelation 12:10-11
(I will now step quietly down from my soapbox.)
