A Time for Seeking

We are living in a time of great transition. Wildfires, wars, terrorism, and political upheaval crowd the headlines. Everything that can be shaken, will be shaken. We are in transition. As the world waits the inauguration of President Trump the shaking is increasing. What does it mean? What is happening? If you have ever sought God, this is the time. ls there a purpose for the shaking? Consider this.

“Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” Hebrews 12:27-28

Things that are shakable will be removed and God’s unshakable Kingdom will remain standing. Therefore it makes sense to seek Him. Millions of believers are currently fasting and praying for mercy and blessing in this new year. Donald Trump is already changing the world scene, but he is not the Savior, as he himself has said multiple times. There is One higher that is in control. We should seek Him! Yeshua (Jesus) is our only hope. He is the Messiah, the son of Yehovah God. Seek Him!

“Seek Yehovah while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to Yehovah, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says Yehovah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:6-9

Let us pray for mercy for those suffering from disasters and wars. Let us pray for mercy for the political transition, especially in the United States. And as always pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Thank God for the rain and snow that has watered the land of Israel.

Planet-wide Birth Pangs

According to the Bible this planet is wearing out, like old clothes. Did you know that? There are an extraordinary number of volcanos and earthquakes right now around the earth. The volcanoes and earthquakes and wildfires and wars and rumors of wars and climate catastrophes like floods and tornadoes and hurricanes and even resistant bacterial epidemics are all prophesied in the Bible. Whew! What does all this mean?

Well, it is the answer to a question Jesus was asked by his disciples in Matthew 24. “How can we know when you are coming back?” His answer was summarized in a curious analogy. It will be at time when all these things listed will converge in something He calls, in verse eight, “the beginning of sorrows”. The literal Greek meaning is travail or birth pangs. The whole earth is now going through these birth pains. His analogy is of a woman about to give birth after many, many days of pregnancy. That is where we are in history.

When the birth is imminent, three things happen. The pains keep increasing in number and intensity, they are closer together, and they last longer. This is where the earth is in history.

THE SHAKING EARTH

“You, Yehovah, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.” Hebrews 1:10-12

Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will change them, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will have no end. Psalm 102:25-27

THE UNSHAKABLE KINGDOM

When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a devouring fire. Hebrews 12:26-29 NLT

Jerusalem is the only time specific reference in the Matthew 24 and Luke 21. Jesus prophesied its destruction of 70 AD and then its restoration, which we now see fulfilled. This is the generation that will “not pass away.”

So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away tillall things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Luke 21:231-33

Where is God? Harvey? Irma? Holocaust?

Bottomless Pit

With our attention riveted on hurricanes, I have two comments about God’s place in the massive death and destruction of cataclysmic events of weather and wars. Is God there?

Six million Jews died in the Holocaust. (Was that the time of Jacob’s trouble?)
Many thousands die in storms, fires and earthquakes.

One is the result of war, the other natural disasters. In either case the question is asked defiantly: Where is God? To answer this question we must distinguish between His dealings with nations from His dealings with individuals.

First, we know that Yehovah God is omnipresent, He is everywhere all the time. Secondly, we know that He is a Father and His primary nature is love. Thirdly, we know from Psalm 19 that His judgments are true and righteous. If you don’t believe that, you reject the God of the Bible.

The law of Yehovah is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of Yehovah is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of Yehovah are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of Yehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of Yehovah is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of Yehovah are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11

Holocaust and wars. Because of the reality of evil and a real devil, there is much sin and death caused not by God but by evil. Ultimately God will end evil. He only delays to allow for many millions more to choose His salvation. Nations hang in the balance of His judgments and receive the consequences of their policies. The Holocaust was the despicable result of Nazi policy conceived by Hitler and the devil straight out of the pits of hell. It is, sadly, quite logical for Jews to ask where God was at that time. Many are atheists rather than accepting a God who would allow such a heinous crime. Yet, individually, Yehovah showed mercy to many as reports attest. And His mercy of salvation personally was still possible for each victim on the basis of their heart toward God and His promise of the Messiah. Only He can know the heart.
Natural disasters. God uses such events as wake-up calls for nations to repent from ungodly pursuits, and turn to Him for blessing and favor on their cities and nation. And also, again, individuals have a personal opportunity to call on Him for mercy and salvation. We heard many inspiring testimonies of Jesus from Hurricane Harvey. Where is your heart toward Him? Are you mad at God? Ask for mercy, humble yourself and repent. Call on the Messiah Yeshua and He will save you eternally. We may or may or not survive physically, but we have the hope of life eternal. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we know that we also will be raised to be with Him and the Father forever.

When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:13-14

Therefore, we do pray for our nation in this time of natural disasters of wind and fire. Yehovah have mercy, and may our nation turn back to God. And we also pray for His purpose of restoration, favor and peace for Israel. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
