Where do terrorists get their power? You may have not considered the source. The Bible is clear about spiritual wickedness. There really is a devil and demonic principalities resisting and opposing God’s plan. It is more than a human political ideology. The source is supernatural. Why do they seem to be winning in the battle for the minds and hearts of men? The answer is that they really believe they will win. They have an evil counterfeit version of faith in their cause. That perverse faith is energized by demonic sources.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
Why are they able to persuade the gullible to follow? The problem is that righteous believers have weak faith. Christians often stop with saving faith, fire insurance, just enough faith to avoid hell. The Bible calls this “little faith.” Pastor John Thrift pointed this out recently at Grace Assembly of God in Wake Forest, NC. It would be good to do a study of “great faith.”
Terrorists really fervently believe their beliefs. Christians often live in doubt with very little faith for real life. Little faith is off to the side somewhere like a fire extinguisher under the sink that is out of date. Terrorists literally die for their beliefs. They are connected to supernatural spirits. They actually have a saying that they win because they love death more than life. It is a death cult. Satan only came to “steal, kill, and destroy.”
“But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” Matthew 8:26
“Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.” Matthew 15:28
Some Christians are wimps. Many Christians believe the Holy Spirit was only around to get the church started. Even “Spirit filled” Christians live their lives without reference to His holy supernatural power. Yeshua (Jesus) came to show us the Father; and He left us the Holy Spirit to energize us with Yehovah God’s power for daily use. How embarrassing to see Christians overcome by the devil. They don’t have a clue what Jesus has given them. Remember this: Great big God, little bitty devil.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:7-10
We need to choose the Holy Spirit to live by. There is power to save AND there is power to live! There are three great points in the famous verse in Revelation 12, but do not miss the main message about the accuser: THEY OVERCAME HIM!
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Revelation 12:10-11
THEY OVERCAME HIM in three steps, by fighting fire with fire, the FIRE of GREAT FAITH:
- The blood of the Lamb.
- The word of their testimony.
- They did not love their lives to the death.
It is time to rise up for such a time as this! Wake up, stand up, and speak up! I have read the end of the Book. We win!

Well, I don’t know that Christians are wimps; I don’t think that’s helpful although I understand the sentiment. There are many reasons why western Christianity is ineffective but I think it boils down to lack of interaction with the word of God and lack of proper discipleship.
Faith comes by hearing the word of God. Torah is clear about the constant interaction with the commandments and laws of God as well as obedience. This is what brought the blessing and protection of God. Our churches are designed for Sunday morning and our lives don’t make the word a priority.
And you are right about the supernatural. Our enemies believe in the supernatural; we abandoned it in the 4th century. We need to recover a supernatural, first century understanding of God’s word. Churches need to train their people not only in the knowledge of the word but in how to conduct supernatural, hands on ministry.
Bottom line, the western church model is the problem. Not wimpy Christians.

Thanks for catching my mistake. I added the word “some” before the sentence about wimpy Christians. Your comments were excellent. I do agree that the Western church model is a problem, but the lack of dependence on the Holy Spirit to infuse God’s word into our hearts is quite serious. Thank you.
