Once again prophecy comes into focus about the capital of Syria. Events this weekend again raise the question of when will the Isaiah 17 prediction be fulfilled? Damascus has been the capital city of various nations continuously for over 5,000 years. And it has never been destroyed. Jerusalem has been destroyed at least eleven times in history, but Damascus not once. Yet here is the word of God clearly foretelling the complete end of Damascus as an inhabited city.
The burden against Damascus. “Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap.Isaiah 17:1
Pro-Assad troops take over Golan UN post in demilitarized area on Israeli border – IDF hints it may act to remove soldiers by force, noting the new position marks a violation of the post-1973 separation of forces agreement. Forces loyal to the regime of Syrian strongman Bashar Assad took control of an abandoned UN post in the no-man’s land between the Israeli and Syrian areas of the Golan Heights, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported on Sunday.
Report: Israeli missiles fall near Damascus airport – Syrian TV reports two Israeli missiles fell in the vicinity of the Damascus international airport. The head of monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, told AFP that “the Israeli missiles hit arms depots for Hezbollah near the airport.”
Each time there is an escalation between Israel and Syria it increases the inevitable fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1. Syria taking over the abandoned UN station in the buffer area moves them closer to the Israeli border. This will not be allowed to stand by Israel.
As the tensions rise and fall on the border we should pray for protection for the IDF troops, but especially for the civilians on both sides of the border. Most are Druse on both sides who are caught in the crossfire. The Syrian army is making major moves into the triangle borders with Israel and Jordan. Pray for wisdom for all the leaders. One thing is for sure. God’s purpose will be accomplished because His word never fails.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and pray for rain.
