Last Saturday Jeremiah Wright, former Pastor of President Obama, claimed that Jesus was a Palestinian. What about it? What difference does it make? Well, the Bible clearly declares that the Messiah will be born of the seed of David and of the tribe of Judah. If Jesus was a Palestinian, He is not the Messiah of Israel, or the Christ of Christians.
The truth is that there was no Palestine at the time of Jesus. Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea. Israel is mentioned no less than 52 times in the New Testament. Palestine is mentioned zero times. (By the way, it is also mentioned zero times in the Koran). There has never been a nation called Palestine in the history of the world, anywhere! Thirty years or more after Jesus was raised from the dead and ascended to Heaven, the Romans totally conquered Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple in 70 AD. Later, in 135 AD, Roman Emperor Hadrian changed the name to Palaestina but it was not a country. They only did it to spite the Jews and attempt to wipe out the memory of Israel. That name stuck in subsequent history because of the rebellion of man against the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Yehovah God of Israel.
One can understand some of the confusion because our Bibles have maps that are labelled: Palestine in the time of Jesus. This is a gross and untrue error. At the beginning of the 20th Century, Jews began streaming back to the land after 400 years of brutal Ottoman Turk Muslim rule. Under the Ottomans it was called Southern Syria. The land was barren and the Jews reclaimed the swamps, the hills, and the valleys. They turned the desolate land into fertile fields (see photo above) and vineyards and olive groves. This productivity created a magnet of jobs for surrounding Arabs from Egypt, Syria and Iraq who joined in on the prosperity. All of these people, both Jews and Arabs, were called Palestinians because of the Roman name change after 135 AD. The main Jewish newspaper for decades was the Palestine Post. It only changed to the Jerusalem Post after Israel became a country in 1948.
It was Yassar Arafat who popularized the term Palestinians as means of dividing the Arabs from the Jews and to begin his terror plot to overthrow and destroy Israel. Now the UN and most of the nations have jumped on the bandwagon to establish a Palestinian State for the first time in history. There is no separate language, no currency, no history, no separate ethnic people or any other historic “right” to claim that they are a nation.
It is God who will have the last word, but you can be sure that Jesus was not a Palestinian.
The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, Yehovah, have rebuilt the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, Yehovah, have spoken it, and I will do it.” Ezekiel 36:34-36

(I have taken the liberty to change the word “LORD” to Yehovah. Every single time you see LORD or GOD in all capital letters in the Old Testament, the actual Hebrew word is Yehovah. This name occurs 6,828 times in the Hebrew text, yet remains untranslated in most Bibles. His name, obscured for 2,500 years, is now being revealed. It is TIME to restore the name of Yehovah!
