One of the surest signs that we are in the last generation is the fulfillment of Amos 9:13-15. We can now see the plowman overtaking the reaper with our own eyes. After pronouncing severe judgment on Israel, he turns to the time of restoration. Some would say this was fulfilled in the past, but that is not possible due to the last sentence of verse 15. Today is the hour that the prophet foretold. Only today can we see history lining up with prophecy.
“Behold, the days are coming,” says Yehovah, “When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; the mountains shall drip with sweet wine, And all the hills shall flow with it. I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,” Says Yehovah your God. Amos 9:14-15.
“No longer” removed from the land can only apply to these last days. Every previous time, Israel was scattered again. In the end, Israel will reach the point where it is never uprooted again. The final condition of Israel is supported by multiple prophecies.
The main point in this quote is the phrase: “the plowman shall overtake the reaper.” This promise indicates a time of such fruitfulness (as in Vine, Branches, Fruit) that the crops will be so plentiful and the soil so fertile that they don’t wait till next year to plant another crop. They plow right behind the reapers. When Doreen and I and our daughter, Andrea, lived in Israel for three months in the mid-nineties, we visited a valley near Mt Hermon in the Golan Heights called the Hula Valley. Doreen is from Maine where they get one and a half cuttings of hay a year. In Georgia, they can get three or four cuttings of hay in a year. But in the Hula Valley of northern Israel they get eighteen cuttings of hay per year. That is fertile land with Yehovah’s blessing of abundance.
The text continues to say that “the mountains will drip with sweet wine”. Grapevines are not usually grown in the rocky soil of Israel’s mountains. But this era of Israel’s resurrection will see miraculous conditions allowing grape vines in the mountains. It goes on to describe gardens with fruit that they plant and enjoy for themselves, no need of imports. Again, finally, no longer will they be removed from the land. Just like they plant and reap the fruit, God will plant them again in their own land, never again to be pulled up. Will the Palestinian flag ever fly over a legitimate state within the Biblical boundaries of Israel? No, it will never happen because God is faithful to keep His covenant with His Land and His people Israel. Will there be more war in Israel? How do you reconcile your understanding of Amos 9:15b as being fulfilled by a primarily, unsaved Jewish population living in Israel in light of Zechariah 14:2? Is it possible that the Amos prophecy takes place after the return of the Lord and during His Millennial Reign when all of Israel (all those who survive through the time of great persecution) are saved?
I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,” Says Yehovah your God. Amos 9:15b
I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Zechariah 14:2

Shalom Steven, great to hear from you! There are two parts to my answer. The first is that Jerusalem is made up of Israeli’s and multitudes of other nations at any one time, so it could refer to them rather than Jews.
My main source is Ezekiel 36 which describes the one and only scattering to all the nations. This is clearly witnessed by 2,000 years of history. He also describes the blessings and prospering after they return, which we have witnessed for 64 years. They are even now turning back to the God of Israel and His Messiah Yeshua. I see this process increasing to the Millennial time of full salvation.

Please consider clear Gospel teadching which quite negates Christian Zionism. There is no more difference between Jew & Greek (Rom. 10:12). The covenant and the kingdom of God are “are within you” (Luke 17:21). Therefore a true “Jew” in the prophetic-sense is he that is one “inwardly” (Rom 2:29). If we have our eyes on a literal fulfillment I am afraid we will miss the true message of the Gospel which points to a regenerating faith in Jesus Christ.

There are many levels of prophetic fulfillment – to the immediate audience, foreshadowing the first coming and/or second advent of Messiah, to the church universal, to the individual believer, as well as both symbolic and natural fulfillments. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, slave nor free, man nor woman in Christ – yet New Testament Scripture clearly speaks of roles for men and women, slaves and owners of slaves. There is still a role and place for corporate, natural Israel in God’s plan.

To dirvinish: Thank you for your sincere comment. I agree with your 2nd and 3rd texts, but Romans 10 is about access. There is no difference in access. All who call on Him will be saved. Ironically, you are taking literally “no difference between Jew and Greek”. This cannot be true literally because there are many differences. This is confirmed by Galations 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
If you take that verse literally, you have Paul contradicting physical anatomy. These distinctions are quite real. The issue is access. No single category enjoys any advantage whatsoever in access to the Father and His Son Jesus, who is the Messiah Savior of all who believe on Him.

I appreciate your well-reasoned responses. And I would agree there are many levels of prophetic fulfillment. However, I perceive these levels as “progressive” rather than “regressive”. The Gospel unveiled God’s purposes in Abraham and his seed as being based in “faith”, not natural heredity. In fact, after acknowledging the Jews as “children of Abraham” (John 8:37) Jesus told the Jews that irrespective of their status as Abraham’s natural progeny their works of unbelief were the true test of Abraham’s seed; “IF you were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” (John 8:39) Clearly, “faith” is the only consideration. Please don’t misunderstand. I am not saying that Jewishness is irrelevant. (That would be a whole other discussion) There might be an opting-back to an earlier and partial revelation of God’s purposes (as Christian Zionism teaches) but its effect is not the Gospel.

When the reformers separated from the Roman Catholic Church, they brought with them Replacement Theology. They formed their doctrine of the church (ecclesiology) upon the idea the church has replaced Israel in the plan of God.
The LORD said, “I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land” (Ezekiel 36:24). He promises, “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land” (Ezekiel 37:21). These and other prophetic passages of Scripture have been fulfilled in the establishment of the Modern State of Israel.
Unfortunately, Reformed and Catholic Theologies have led to many of their followers perceiving Israel as the major problem in the Middle East and the Jews having no right to the land. They claim that the New Covenant did away with the Abrahamic Covenant.
Although Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic Covenant, the promises given to Abraham were confirmed to both Isaac and Jacob. The LORD’s statement of, “All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever” was a promise that was given 430 years before the Law of Moses.

“Replacement theology” would be the opposite error to Christian Zionism if it means that a Gentile-church replaces the Jewish Nation (which is how many perceive it). Paul expressed the matter clearly when he explained that the church is actually both (Jew & Gentile). The distinction is dissolved by the operation of faith. Paul presented himself as evidence God had not rejected the natural children of Abraham – Had a Gentile “church” (which there is no such thing) replaced Israel-after-the-flesh Paul himself could not have been a member of the body of Messiah. Therefore “Replacement Theology” is just as erroneous. However, when I read Ezekiel’s prophecy concerning the resurrection of the dry bones or the joining of the stick of Judah with the stick of Ephraim, I do not rejoice that some new civil government will be restored. Rather, I rejoice that the church of God that is scattered due to unbelief will be gathered to a new unity in the Holy Spirit and a return to its former works.

Ezekiel 36 is the key. It is a prophecy in two parts. The first is to the land, specifically and geographically. The second is to the Jews. Seeing this passage literally will clarify much. We former Gentiles have been grafted into the Israel tree (Romans 11) for two thousand years. I rejoice that we are now seeing, in living current events, the re-grafting of Israel back into their own tree. Hallelujah! History is His Story as the saying goes. There is indeed a progressive revelation of Yehovah God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He has only had one plan. There is no “Plan B”.
