The debate this week has been about using the phrase: “radical Islamic terrorism.” However, even using that phrase misses the real problem. This is not simply a human war. There are real living spiritual demonic forces behind the human activity.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NLT
Most view Islam and Sharia as only a political ideology. They see the religion as less significant. But Islam is a demonically empowered religion. Communism might have conquered the world if it had a religious fanaticism component. Islam is more dangerous because it has the political world supremacist ideology married to the fundamentalist religious spirit.
Jesus warned about both: Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” Mark 8:15 NKJV
The leaven of the Pharisees was the religious spirit of “self-righteousness.” The leaven of Herod was the political spirit of “self-interest.” Communist supremacy, Nazi supremacy, and even “white” supremacy are all primarily political. Islam is both.
Most Christians are aware that God gave us the power of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. Most also know that the Greek word translated “power” is “dunamis.” It is the root of our English words “dynamic” and “dynamite.” However, most Christians don’t know about the revelation of Luke 10. The King James translation for generations read like this:
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19 KJV
Notice that the word “power” is used twice. This choice of the translators had the effect of hiding an important revelation. They are not both “dunamis” in the Greek. The first one is actually the Greek word for jurisdiction or jurisdictional authority. Later translations read like this:
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19 NKJV
So, the devil has dunamis power and we have dunamis power. The difference is that followers of Jesus have authority or jurisdiction over the enemy power. Therefore, our victory over the spiritual forces arrayed against us, depends completely on the authority of Jesus that has been given to us to overcome the enemy. Praise God! So let’s do it. Make sure you battle in the spiritual dimension. Don’t allow distractions to human issues.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
