Elisha Vision – Commentary

Gratitude is the key to loving God. Most folks don’t understand how critical a lifestyle of THANKS-giving is for their relationship to God and others. On this Thanksgiving Day I’m reminded of the Bible’s point of view. Thankfulness starts as the DOORWAY to His Prescence, by acknowledging God is our source.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”  Psalm 100:4

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”  James 1:17

“Rejoice always, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

Finally, there is a remarkable warning about failing to be thankful. Paul included thankfulness in his explanation for the effect of a reprobate mind. While warning about rebellion from God, he adds an ominous connection between rebellion and not being thankful!

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, NOR WERE THANKFUL, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”  Romans 1:20-21

“Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.”  Romans 1:21 NLT

So, let us be thankful, for as Dave Ramsey always says: “We are blessed, more than we deserve.”
