Egypt Erupts Again

10 10 2011

Egyptian mobs clashed with Christians today in day three of new anti-Christian riots. Dozens are dead with hundreds injured. It is time to conclude that the Egyptian Arab Spring has not led to freedom of religion and speech for Egypt’s ten million Christians. The opposite is evidenced by a downward spiral of violence (ABC video link) led by the real new freedom of Muslim fanatics. The army not only does not restrain, but often encourages this new “liberty” for sectarian violence.

The deadly clashes between Egypt’s Copt minority and security forces further stress what should have been clear for a while now: America’s insistence on President Hosni Mubarak’s ouster helped create a catastrophe, with Israel’s southern neighbor increasingly descending into the throes of chaos. Meanwhile, the Muslim Brotherhood waits in the wings for the November 28 elections when they will likely assume rule over all of Egypt. Israel’s Embassy in Cairo has closed twice in as many months due to mob violence. The gas pipeline from Egypt to Israel and Jordan was bombed six times this year leading to much higher gas prices for Israel. Add increased Egyptian troops in Sinai after the terrorist attack into Israel, and you have clear escalation of tensions. Even more menacing reports detail sophisticated weapons now flowing freely from Libya through Egypt to Hamas in Gaza.

So how does this relate to Bible prophecy? This is another step toward the impending Psalm 83 War. The Palestinian flag is waving over more demonstrations around the world. Lebanon has fallen to radical Hezbollah. Syria is teetering on the brink and Saudi Arabia is now facing unrest from Shiites in the northeast. Even Jordan is threatened. Events are happening so fast that the following scripture is fulfilled before our eyes.

“Behold, the days are coming,” says Yehovah, “When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; The mountains shall drip with sweet wine, And all the hills shall flow with it.Amos 9:13

This passage in Amos refers to the restoration of Israel after their scattering to all nations that lasted nearly 2,000 years. However, I see in the phrase: “the plowman overtakes the reaper” a commentary on the Arab Spring. Before the expected democratic “fruit” could be seen, it was plowed under by the radical Muslim mobs. Yet, in Israel there is much fruit harvested to the ultimate glory of Yehovah God and to His Son, Jesus; Yeshua ben Yehovah.

As we celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles this week, we not only look back to the tabernacle of Moses in the wilderness. We joyfully look ahead to that glorious day when our holy God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will tabernacle with the redeemed for all eternity. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
